Information manipulation is a deliberate attempt to mislead and weaken trust in society and the media. Here are 6 tips to protect yourself:

  1. Verify the Source’s Credibility: Be wary of anonymous accounts and “doppelganger” sites. Watch out for unusual domain extensions (e.g., “.ltd”, “.online”).
  2. Check the Source’s Reputation: Reliable sources are transparent about their team and mission. Be alert if you cannot identify who is behind the information.
  3. Pay Attention to Tone: Manipulation often uses shocking or overly emotional language to create “enemies” and assign blame.
  4. Look for Evidence: Extraordinary claims require solid evidence. Manipulators often present facts “selectively” or mix truth with lies.
  5. Cross-check Multiple Sources: A quick web search can verify a claim through trusted media outlets or fact-checking websites.
  6. Think Critically: Carefully evaluate information before sharing it and maintain a critical mindset toward everything you read online.
