The goal of the project is to empower and engage youth in local democracy by fostering mentorship and cooperation opportunities between youth and local government, and by creating an informed and active citizenry for the sustainable future of communities in Armenia.
The project was implemented in three main phases:
- In the first phase, a 2-day training session was organized, where 10 experienced youth workers from different regions of Armenia were trained as effective mentors in local democracy, advocacy, and meaningful participation.
- In the second phase, a 4-day intensive training course in Vanadzor empowered 20 young individuals from remote rural communities across Armenia. At the end of the course, the participants met with their mentors to plan their upcoming community actions.
- In the third phase, supported by their mentors, the youth implemented localized community initiatives and dialogue meetings with local government representatives and residents, engaging over 250 citizens. This phase concluded with a high-profile Youth Forum and a panel discussion featuring sector experts, local government officials, and ministerial representatives.
The project successfully activated constructive dialogue at the local level, enhanced civic awareness among young people, and contributed to solving tangible community issues, including infrastructure and waste management improvements.
The project is implemented by “WE” Youth NGO of Lori Region.
This activity is supported by the European Youth Foundation of The Council of Europe a unique foundation supporting activities developed with, for and by young people.
